The Book Camp did not disappoint. In fact, I was blown away. I'm writing to unreservedly, wholeheartedly recommend the WWA Book Camp to my fiction writer friends. You'll have to wait until May 15 - 21, 2016, but put it on your calendars now.
Credit the success of the NIP Book Camp to Dave Rank, President of Wisconsin Writers Association. It's his baby and Dave sure knows how to 'give good workshop.' Dave is a warm, welcoming man who loves writers and understands all their neurotic ticks. Dave found the perfect venue, hired an ideal group of instructors, and managed to attract some heavy hitting industry professionals to work with the dozen participants.
Book Camp is perfectly tailored to the fiction writer who is finished or nearly finished with his or her novel in any genre. Five full days of personal and group critiques, style and craft workshops, key editing tips, marketing workshops, query letter critique, and pitch coaching. I came away with concrete recommendations of how to punch up, clean up, and beef up my manuscript, as well as a query letter that works for me (instead of against me), and a clear outline of how to proceed with web marketing and branding. All this in seven days and six nights at the Cedar Valley Retreat Center in West Bend, WI, with, as they say, "100 comforting acres of carefree hospitality."
Seriously, check out the website http://www.novelbookcamp.com/ and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NIPBookcamp for WWA and the NIP Book Camp and then take a peek at the Cedar Valley Retreat Center website http://cedar-valley.org/
Save the date for next year's Book Camp and finish your damn book!
